The Signs
of Hearing Loss can be subtle and emerge slowly, or
they can be more noticeable and come on suddenly. Either way, there are
several common indicators of a hearing loss:
* Routine hearing screenings are essential because many patients with slowly developing hearing loss are unaware of the severity of their loss. * The use of hearing instruments is associated with reductions in anger, frustration paranoia, anxiety and overall improvements in emotional stability, even for people affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. * Most people who use hearing instruments report improved social lives * If you are age 45 or older, or have a family member who is 45 or older, there is a very strong chance that hearing loss affects your life. * 31.5 million Americans, or 10% of the US population, have a significant hearing loss, including 1/3 of people over the age of 60 * Hearing loss is the third most common treatable disabling condition, behind arthritis and hypertension * Only 5% of hearing losses can be treated medically or with surgery, the remaining 95% can be treated with the use of hearing instruments * Advanced technology in amplification is now proven to be highly effective in treating sensorineural hearing losses and can lead to better quality of life. * Hard-of-hearing people are less likely to be discriminated against if they use hearing instruments * Working Americans who ignore their hearing problems are losing at least $100 Billion a year in earnings
